The son of the owner of popular SoBo restaurant Bade Miyan has been booked for causing hurt and rioting, after he knocked down a pedestrian at Horniman Circle on Monday night.

The police said the accused, Mohammed Owais, was riding on the wrong side of the road when he hit pedestrian Vikas Dube. A heated argument ensued between Owais and Dube, who was walking with a friend Dilip Dhule.

“As the incident took place close to Owais’ restaurant, his staff came out and along with Owais started beating up Dube and Dhule. Dhule then called his friend Santosh Patole, who came with another ten people and allegedly started beating Owais and his staff,” said sub-inspector Hanuman Patil.

The MRA Marg police have booked Owais on charges of causing hurt and rioting, after a complaint was registered by Patole. The police have also lodged a cross complaint against the two pedestrians and their associates for allegedly assaulting Owais and his hotel staffers.

“Owais and 10 to 15 of his hotel staff were booked under relevant sections for causing hurt and rioting. Owais was injured and was taken to the Bhatia hospital, while Dube and his associate were admitted at St George Hospital. A cross complaint of rioting has been registered against them,” Patil said.

The police have arrested four people from both sides and are trying to identify the rest. CCTV footage of the restaurant is being scanned, an officer said.
