You will soon be able to book a retiring room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) station online from anywhere in the country.
The Central Railway (CR) is expected to start the e-booking service of retiring rooms on this website by the end of May.
Retiring rooms are short-term accommodation facilities available at all major stations where long-distance railway commuters can pay and stay for a maximum of 48 hours. These can be booked on a first-come-first-serve basis on the payment of the prescribed charges and the passenger has to present his ticket to the stationmaster to avail the service.
"Currently, a passenger can check availability of a bed or retiring room only after he reaches the particular station. But, after the e-booking service starts, one can book rooms at CST from anywhere in the country," said V Malegaonkar, chief public relations officer, CR.
CST has five rooms, both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned, and a dormitory - a total of 22 beds.
"We recently conducted an experiment wherein the Delhi stationmaster booked retiring rooms at CST. After the software is ready and operational, the passenger will have to provide his ticket details on the CR's website to book a retiring room," said Malegaonkar.
