Here’s a reason to ditch your car this New Year’s Eve. The Central and Western railways will run special trains through the night so revellers can return home safe.
Central Railway (CR) would run four special trains on the main and harbour lines, while two specials would ply on the Western Railway (WR).
On CR, the first special would start at 1.10am from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and reach Kalyan at 2.40am. The second special would depart Kalyan at 1.15am and arrive at CST at 2.45am. Those who stay beyond Kalyan, towards Kasara or Karjat, would have to finish their journey by road.
On the harbour line, the specials would leave CST and Panvel simultaneously at 1.20am and reach Panvel and CST at 2.40am.
On the WR, the train would leave Churchgate at 1.45am and reach Virar at 3.28am. A train would leave Virar at 12.40am and arrive at Churchgate at 2.20am.
Trains on both lines would halt at all stations.
“We heard there is a spate of road accidents during New Year celebrations. We hope our trains help. People need not risk their lives by driving after drinking,” said a senior CR official on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
