‘Spider-Man’ thief lands in police net

The VP Road police recently arrested a 22-year-old robber after an hour-long chase.

Dubbed as the ‘Spider-Man’, Mukim Mohammed Samshad Zargar is known to climb the pipes of high-rise buildings to carry out thefts.

On November 5, the police noticed him climbing the pipeline of a residential building in Girgaum. When Mohammed saw the police, he panicked and tried to flee. He leapt through the terraces of more than five buildings. After an hour, the police managed to nab him.

“Mohammed confessed to having committed three robberies in the locality and collectively stealing around Rs 6 lakh,” said MR Bhosle, sub-inspector.

Mohammed, a native of Uttar Pradesh, lives on the footpath at Girgaum. An expert in climbing pipes, he can reach the top of a four-storey building within two minutes, the police said.

Based on the information given by him, the police have arrested one Jahangirali Zargar, 22. The police recovered booty worth Rs 3.2 lakh from them.

“Recently Mohammed had climbed into the office of Champalal Shah, 53, owner of Kalapurna Steel and Engineering at Girgaum. He stole silver coins and other valuables worth Rs 39,000,” said Bhosle.
