Furious at being cold-shouldered by his 47-year-old lover, a 32-year-old man threw disinfectant on her face. He was arrested by the Samta Nagar police on Thursday.

The police said the incident took place around 10.45pm on Thursday. The man, Pratapkumar Gupta, has apparently appeared in a few low-budget movies and is a singer at a Bhayandar bar. He lives in the same suburb with his wife and two children.

Police said Gupta had a love affair with Shaheen Khan, who works as a singer in Dahisar. They were together for 15

years and the two would frequently go to her residence in Singh Estate, Kandivli Village. Khan and Gupta became acquainted while working in the same bar.

Khan, who has a 22-year-old daughter, was deserted by her husband more than 15 years ago. She then stared working in a bar to support her family.

"Lately, the duo had been quarrelling frequently after Khan started avoiding Gupta and had also barred him from visiting her residence," said senior police inspector Anant Kenjale of Samta Nagar police station.

Gupta, however, continued to persuade Khan until five days ago when the latter went to his residence and informed his wife about their affair.

"This angered Gupta, who, on finding the opportunity, intercepted her while she was heading towards home and splashed the disinfectant on her face," Kenjale said.

The locals and a police patrol vehicle that was nearby, raced to Khan’s aid after hearing her scream.

While Gupta was arrested immediately, Khan was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where she was discharged after being given basic treatment.

"Her face and eyes have become red due to a minor burning sensation caused due to the disinfectant," Kenjale stated.
