A Sri Lankan national, against whom a Red Notice was issued by Singapore for alleged possession of narcotic substances, was on Friday arrested at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport.

Jeremy Mahen Chanmugan was detained at the airport by immigration authorities upon his arrival and was later handed over to police which placed him under arrest.

"The Interpol wing of CBI has taken up the matter with Interpol Singapore for initiating further process for the arrested accused's extradition through diplomatic channels," an official statement from CBI said.

According to the CBI, the Interpol Red Notice was issued against Chanmugan at the request of Singaporean authorities for alleged possession of controlled drugs in 2004.
