Senior lawyer Navroj Seervai, who argued on behalf of the NGO, said: “Like cancer, the encroachers start destroying mangroves from centre of a big area.”
He added that a MMRDA contractor was using mangrove areas for the fabrication work. “Huge iron sheets cover the mangroves,” he said adding that the authorities had not acted on the local’s complaints. locals.
The court has given a week’s time to the state authorities, BMC and Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation to act on the directives.
