A student from Beed was arrested on Wednesday after he threatened to bomb the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore during the first India-Pakistan T20 match on Tuesday, police said.
The BSc student rang up the Bangalore police from his mobile phone on Monday. Police said the student also sent an SMS to Milind Narvekar of the Shiv Sena, saying the late party leader Bal Thackeray's wish to not allow Pak cricketers to play on Indian soil, was about to come true.
The student was a big fan of the late Bal Thackeray. He had sent a message to Uddhav Thackeray's personal assistant saying, "Saheb, your dream will now be fulfilled, a bomb blast will occur at the 20-20 match".
But, when the student realised he had been caught out, he cooked up an abduction story, fearing arrest, police sources said.
Superintendent of police Dattatrya Mandlik told PTI that the student had come to the police station on Tuesday night and claimed to have been abducted by 4-5 persons, who forced him to call the Bangalore police on Monday night.
When quizzed, he admitted to having phoned the Bangalore police himself, threatening a blast, Mandlik said, adding that security had to be beefed up at the Bangalore stadium.
Inspector Syyad Jilani Kadar said the student was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
