The Congress student leader who was suspended for allegedly dancing indecently at a party function in May, has been reinstated.

Suraj Singh Thakur, the Mumbai chief of the National Students Union of India, the Congress student wing, along with two office bearers had allegedly been drunk during the function at Kandivli was caught on camera dancing without his shirt on, at the three-day leadership development programme held by the party.

The ‘dirty dancing’ clip went viral and created a controversy over the youth leadership in the Congress, after which a seven-member committee decided on disciplinary action.

The youth leaders were asked to lie low for a month and stay away from all party activities.

On Thursday night, they were brought back on the job. “Since they have completed their punishment, they have been reinstated. They were not suspended indefinitely,’’ said Shivraj More, NSUI state president.

Party sources said things at the function went out of hand after some of the new members objected to being ragged by Thakur and then captured his dance on camera.
