Rakesh Sachdeva, who the Shivaji Nagar police officials are keen to question in the accident case in which a Scorpio allegedly mowed down a two-year-old boy, is a Shiv Sena party worker.

Sachdeva (48), owner of the Scorpio, is also a real estate agent in Koparkhairane.

Ramdas Pawle, Sena spokesperson from Koparkha-irane said:“He may be our party worker, but definitely does not hold any post in the party.”

Sources said Rakesh has a habit of flaunting his connections with Sena leaders. He had recently put up hoardings picturing him with the leaders.

Assistant Police Inspector, A Walatkar said: “We are in touch with the members of the political party, who are now helping us in tracing Sachdeva.”

“Once we are able to question Rakesh, we will get a clear idea about who was driving the car when the accident happened,” said Walatkar.

Police sources had traced Sachdeva’s residence at Koparkhairane with the help of the car number but learnt that he had been missing since 15 days. “Even his wife and other family members are trying to trace him since two weeks,” added Walatkar.

The accident happened on Tuesday near Baiganwadi area of Shivaji Nagar.

There were two people in the car at the time of the accident. The duo took the boy to two hospitals but fled after the boy was declared dead at Rajawadi hospital.

Police sources added that he went missing after bank executives reportedly started hounding him for delay in paying the installment amounts of the said car.
