Tantrik booked for forging passport

The 37-year-old tantrik, Jainul Abidin Shaikh, alias Mehdi Kasam alias Bangalibaba, arrested by the JJ Marg police for raping seven girls, including a maid, of a south Mumbai-based family, has now been booked for forging his passport and election card.

The police on Friday told the court that Sheikh had forged a passport and election card. However, the person who issued the card was dead and they now want to investigate the channel though with Sheikh got the forged documents, police said.

The court extended Sheikh’s police custody till December 7.

The police said they were yet to ascertain whether Shaikh is an Indian national.

“In these four days while he is in our custody, we will try to find out his background and where he is from,” said Cherring Dorje, deputy commissioner of police, zone .

The rape case came to light after an 18-year-old victim informed her father about the two-year-long trauma she and her sisters had gone through. The father then registered a complaint with the police.
