Sunil Tatkare started his political journey in the backwaters of the Konkan, which eventually propelled him into the finance minister’s chair. On Thursday, it was time to say thank you.
Raigad was named as one of only six districts to be covered by the Rajiv Gandhi New Jeevandai Yojana through which poor families would get specialised healthcare.
He also gifted the district a medical college and a state-of-the-art Konkan Division Sports Complex. Such a sports complex is usually located at the divisional headquarters, which is Mumbai in this case. Tatkare justified the departure from tradition by saying that land prices were too high in the city.
He also announced a Rs 15-crore museum showcasing Chhatrapati Shivaji’s life in the district.
As if all this wasn’t enough, he announced that Raigad would be amongst four districts in the Konkan to get 786 km of coastal highways and a police training college.
