The state government’s notification, which was out on Friday, regarding the Hakim panel report, has made this point clear, bringing relief to lakhs of city commuters.

According to the notification, the state government has not accepted all recommendations in the report. It has decided to curtail living cost by Rs 1,000 and maintenance cost of vehicles by Rs 22,000 in the case of taxis, and Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 in the case of autorickshaws.

As per the new figures, taxi fares will be Rs18 and autorickshaw fares will be Rs14 for the minimum distance of 1.5km. At present, the minimum taxi fare is Rs17, and minimum auto fare is Rs12, both for a minimum distance of 1.6km.

On July 27, the committee submitted its report and according to those calculations, the minimum auto and taxi fares were going to increase by Rs3. According to the notification, there won’t be any change in the night charge, which is 25% of the regular fare.
