Activists of Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), the student wing of the Shiv Sena, blackened the face of a school teacher in a civic school at Mulund on Friday after complaints from a child’s parents of the teacher beating up their child badly.
Sources said on August 17, Prakash allegedly slapped and hit the 15-year-old girl (name withheld on request) on her face during class.
He also pushed the girl, who fell down and got hurt after she fell on a wooden bench. The girl was in a bad state and she started vomiting and her health deteriorated when she went home, alleged BVS workers.
Her parents then took her to the doctor and also complained to the school, which reportedly did not take any action.
“The parents then approached us. We prepared a complaint letter and had gone to the school to stage a protest and submit the letter,” Vijay Gawai, BVS leader from Mulund told HT. Activists also blackened the face of the teacher.
Senior Police Inspector P. Landge of Mulund police station said, “We have registered a case of rioting against around 15 unidentified men of BVS. The men had barged into the school premises and thrashed the schoolteacher, who they believed had beaten up a class 9 girl. They also did not allow the students to leave the school premises while they were there.”
BMC education committee chairperson Rukmini Kharatmol told HT she will seek a detailed report of the entire incident at Mulund civic school and look into the matter.
