A 16-year-old boy arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a six-year-old neighbour was found to have also tattooed the names of three other rape victims on his body, 'to remember them'.
The teen, a school dropout and a daily wage earner from the Malwani area of Malad in Mumbai, was found to have six tattoos of three girls' names on various parts of his body.
The boy was handed over to the police by the mother of his last victim, who found her daughter struggling with him in a secluded area outside a church. Medical tests have confirmed that the six-year-old was raped.
"While we were interrogating the boy, we found the names of the girls tattooed on his chest, shoulders and hands," said police sub-inspector Vaibhav Patil.
"He first claimed the names were of girls that he had raped earlier. But later he said they were the names of friends from his school."
The boy has now been shifted to the Dongri children's home.
The police are investigating whether he has any similar cases registered against him in the city. They are also trying to find the girls whose names are tattooed on his body.
