Two teenagers drowned in the Bhayander creek in Jesal Park area after going swimming with friends on Tuesday afternoon.

While the body of one of the boys has been found, rescue work is on to trace the second boy, the police said.

The Navghar police have identified the teenagers as Harshad Yadav, 17, a resident of the Iraniwadi area of Kandivli and Anand Yadav, 17, a resident of Abhilash Nagar in the Laljipada area of Kandivli (West).

The duo was visiting Bhayander for the house-warming ceremony of a friend, Sukhsagar Shukla, 17, in the Indralok area of Bhayander (West).

All three were commerce students at Nirmala College in Kandivli (West). Another friend, Abhishek Singh, 16, a Class 12 (science) student, accompanied them.

"After the ceremony got over, Shukla said the creek was nearby. We decided to visit it and once we were there, we all jumped into the water," Abhishek said.

However, once inside the water, Abhishek said the current pulled him in. Seeing him struggle, Anand rushed to his aid.

However, Abhishek managed to swim to the shore while Anand was seen struggling.

Harshad, too, had jumped in to save Abhishek but went missing in the strong currents.

"Even Sukhsagar jumped in. But he hit his foot on something hard and had to swim back to the shore. We were shouting for help but even though there were several people around, no one came to our aid. I've never felt so helpless," Abhishek said.

Abhishek said he informed the police control room and the fire brigade, and a rescue operation was initiated.

"Harshad's body was found an hour later and has been sent to the Tembha civic hospital for a post mortem.

"We have registered a case of accidental death in the matter. Investigation is in progress," said Dinkar Pingle, inspector of Navghar police station.
