The driver of a three-wheeler fired at his employer’s nephew with a country-made revolver on the Nitin Company flyover near Panchpakhadi in Thane (West) on Friday.

While the driver Ram Bachchan Yadav (35) is absconding, the victim Murar Gadvi (21) was lucky as the bullet only grazed his stomach and he suffered minor injuries.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered.

“The Gadvis, residents of Andheri, run a small unit manufacturing plastic files at Sion. Gadvi, along with Yadav, had gone to Bhiwandi to supply the files from where he got Rs 17,000 in return. While they were on the Eastern Express Highway, Yadav fired at Gadvi from close quarters,” said Police Inspector Hemant Sawant.

“Yadav lost control of the vehicle, hit a tanker and then fled from the spot. We found the weapon at the spot. Money could have been the reason behind the firing.”

The Gadvis hired Yadav as a temporary driver only a few days ago.

“Yadav used to work with a hair dresser near our shop in Sion. As our regular driver had gone to his native place, we hired Yadav only 10 days ago,” said Gadvi’s cousin Mahesh (19).

“We don’t know why he fired at my brother.” The police have alerted all the police stations and have sent out search teams to trace Yadav.
