“Thank you for investing in the next generation of leaders around the world.” This is a note penned by the US First Lady in the visitors’ book at the Mumbai University. “This is the first time that the US First Lady has visited Mumbai University, one of the oldest in the country,” said vice-chancellor Rajan Welukar.
She was also pleased to see the books, ‘Audacity of Hope’ and ‘Dreams From My Father’, written by her husband, Barack Obama, on the library’s shelves
In October, Jitin Nedumala, 23, who helped found Make a Difference (MAD) in 2006, received the Youth Action Net award for their work from the US. “Michelle Obama probably met us because she saw youth leaders steering the lives of those who had no parental support,” said Nedumala. MAD’s youth volunteers donate Rs 200 to Rs 300 every month and spend time every week teaching kids.
