Had he entered his house five minutes later, Suresh Gaikwad (40) would have not been able to help the police nab two burglars trying to rob his home. The police arrested Kailash Shelar (25) and Mahesh Dhanawade (21) — both from Mahableshwar — on Sunday.

Gaikwad, an operator at Vashi check naka, returned from his village to his house at Koparkhairane around 4 am. Gaikwad said, “As we got off the autorickshaw, my son said the light in our house was on.”

“I saw the lock of the iron collapsible door had been broken. When I went inside, I saw two men who had packed a bag with our belongings.”

Gaikwad pushed them inside the house and locked it from outside and raised an alarm. Police Inspector Sanjay Bange said: “We recovered a LCD television set, camera and jewellery.”
