It was a sombre Saturday in Borivli after police recorded three separate cases of suicide involving two men in their 30s and an 18-year-old youth.
In the first case, 32-year Rahul Sadanand Kamble was found dead in his Gorai home by his brother. Kamble had hanged himself with a shawl. The police said he was depressed after his business had suffered some major losses.
A resident of Nandanvan Society near Gorai, Kamble was unmarried. He lived with his parents, brother and sister-in-law and worked as a contractor with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Authority (MMRDA).
Over the past three-four months, business was bad and Kamble had lost a large amount of money.
With his parents visiting relatives in Virar and his brother and sister-in-law out at work, Kamble was alone at home when he committed suicide.
At 7.30pm, Kamble’s brother came back home, but no one answered the door. He opened the door using a duplicate pair of keys and found Kamble’s body.
“His family said he had been depressed and had stopped interacting with everyone,” said B Chate, senior inspector, Borivli police station.
In the second suicide, the police said 37-year-old man Prashant Vijay Nalavade was depressed because of his wife’s terminal illness.
Police said Nalavade worked as a bank manager till six months ago, when he left work to care for his wife, a blood cancer patient. He had been unemployed since.
“His family said he had been depressed and that they do not suspect any foul play. Nalavade also had an eight-year-old son,” Chate said.
The third case involved an 18-year-old who committed suicide by hanging himself at his Borivli (West) residence. The police said the boy, Ketan Manohar Pashke, had failed his Class ten exams three years ago and had given up on studying since.
He was unemployed and lived with his parents at a chawl in the Eksar Koliwada area of Borivli (West).
Pashke hanged himself when his parents left for work around 9.45am on Saturday. No suicide note was found.
