The Malad police, on Monday, arrested a ticketing agent and his accomplice who would take advantage of his clients’ outstation trips to commit robberies at their residences. Two other accomplices had been arrested on Saturday.
The main accused has been identified as Sanjay Khatik and his accomplices have been identified as Manish Chautala, Shahbaaz Shaikh and Abdul Shaikh. All of them are in their twenties and are residents of Wadala. According to police, Khatik would plan the robberies by sourcing details from his clients.
He would find out the nature of their visit, the number of days they were planning to be away and whether the client was travelling with family or alone.
“When a client approached Sanjay to book tickets for an outstation trip, he would remember the departure and arrival dates. He would share this information with his accomplices and once the client was away, they would strike at the house,” said a police officer.
On Saturday, the police caught Manish and Shahbaaz red-handed as they tried breaking into a house in Malad (W). The duo led the police to their accomplices. The accused have confessed to having committed several robberies in and out of Mumbai. The police have so far detected 15 house break-ins and thefts in Malad, Wadala, Antop Hill and Pune.
“They have booked for house break-in and theft and have been remanded in police custody,” said R Prabhu, police inspector from Malad police station.
