Upset with his employer for refusing to lend him Rs10-lakh to buy a house, a man decided to take revenge by stealing not only the money but also his boss’s his car.
According to the police, Praveen Shinde had been working as a driver for businessman Ramesh Jivanram Usrani, 63, for the past six years.
Usrani, a Ghatkopar resident, approached the police on Tuesday after he found that Shinde had disappeared with his Maruti Alto and Rs10 lakh in cash.
According to the police, Usrani had gone for shopping to Linking Road in Bandra (West) earlier in the day. Around 11.30am, he asked Shinde to park the car (MH03-3135) near a jewellery store. Usrani had kept Rs10 lakh in the car for a business transaction.
When Usrani returned around an hour later, he could not find his car. “The driver did not answer any of his calls. After some time Shinde switched off his phone. Usrani suspected foul play and then approached the police and lodged a complaint,” said a police officer from Khar police station on condition of anonymity.
Usrani told the police that he suspected that Shinde fled with his car since he refused to lend him the money.
On the day of the theft, Shinde was aware that his employer had kept money in the car, the police said.
“Shinde was arrested when he came to visit his family in Ghatkopar on Wednesday,” said Mangesh Pote, senior inspector, Khar police station. “He has been booked for theft and has been remanded in police custody for two days.”
