Top cop to meet 26/11 martyrs’ kin

Mumbai police commissioner Sanjeev Dayal has invited the family members of those policemen who had been martyred during the 26/11 terror strike for an interaction at the Police Gymkhana at Marine Drive on Thursday.

As many as 14 policemen from the city police were martyred including included IGP Hemant Karkare, DIG Ashok Kamte, Senior Inspector Vijay Salaskar and Assistant Sub- Inspector (ASI) Tukaram Omble.

“They are an integral part of our family. I want to talk to them, share their feelings,” Dayal told HT on Wednesday.

“I will take stock of whether the promised facilities and benefits have reached them. Whether anything more needs to be done.”

Smita Salaskar, wife of martyred inspector Vijay Salaskar, while welcoming the commissioner’s move said that it has made every family re-affirm the sense of belongingness with the department. “I will attend the event. It is a privilege to meet the commissioner. It will be an avenue to discuss our problems directly with him,” she added.
