It was difficult Sunday for suburban commuters as train services on the Western, Central and Harbour lines were all affected, for a variety of reasons.
On the Central line, a derailed goods train caused major problems for the early morning services. The train, used for supplying engineering material within the central section went off the track at around 6.30am on fast corridor near Diva station. Following this, all services on the fast corridor were diverted to the slow lines, causing both fast and slow trains to be delayed by around 30 minutes.
V Chandrasekar, Central Railway (CR) spokesperson, said, “The line going towards Kalyan was cleared by 7.30am, while fast services towards CST were restored by 9.30am.”
In the evening, Western Railway (WR) services were allegedly behind schedule owing to trespassing between Mahalaxmi and Bombay Central.
“A train going towards Churchgate was stuck between Mahalaxmi and Bombay Central for 20minutes. As result, at least 15-16 trains were delayed for 5-10 minutes,” said a WR official requesting anonymity.
There were also blocks on all three lines, imposed for maintenance work. On the Central line, there were no slow trains at Thakurli, Kopar, Diva, Mumbra and Kalva stations during the block period. “My day was wasted because of the disruption and mega block. I planned to return home from Thane before the mega block, but I was stuck inside the train at Dombivli for more than 40minutes because of the derailment. My whole schedule got disturbed,” said Tejal Desai, Kalwa resident.
On Harbour line, there was a mega block between Kurla and Mankhrud, owing to which
all services between CST and Vashi, Belapur and Panvel were suspended.
