The Kurla police arrested a gang of three persons accused of stealing a man’s mobile phone in Kurla (W) on Saturday.

The police also seized a Honda City car from the gang, which is a tourist vehicle used by one of the accused who was employed as a driver of that car.

At around 2.30pm, the accused identified as Irfan Shaikh, 19, Suraj Vishwakarma, 22 and Rajesh Trivedi, 24, targeted Jamil Khan, 20 and robbed him of his mobile phone and cash on LBS Marg in Kurla (w).

The police said that the accused used the tourist car when it used to return empty after ferrying passengers. One of the accused identified as Shafiq Pathan succeeded in escaping, police said.

Laxman Bhalerao, senior inspector of Kurla police said, “All the accused are friends and they seemed to have committed similar crimes before. We are in the process of getting the details of the agency with which the car is registered and are on lookout for Pathan.” The police have secured the custody of the trio, who do odd jobs and are getting further details of their modus operandi and other accomplices.
