Truck runs over 20-year-old biker

A 20-year-old man was killed on Thursday after a speeding dump truck hit his bike on Gorai road. Around 5:45 pm, Prateek Thakare was returning home to Kandivli (West) when he tried to overtake a BMC dump truck near the Gorai bus depot, police said.

But, the truck driver did not give Thakare space to overtake, and the front wheel of Thakare’s motorcycle brushed the rear of the dumper. “Thakare lost balance and fell and came under the rear wheel of the truck,” a police official said.

The Borivli police nabbed the truck driver, Baban Rohate, and booked him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving, an officer said.
Thakare was the only son of his parents.
