After being refused thrice by the girl he loved and wanted to marry, 23-year-old Prabhakar Ramchandra Palkar attacked the girl with a knife before stabbing himself on Friday.

According to Bhimrav Rathod, senior police inspector of Chembur police station, Palkar man stays at the Marwadi RC Road in Chembur with his parents. The 19-year-old girl lived in the vicinity before shifting to Chembur Camp a few days ago.

About 15 days ago, Palkar went to the girl’s house along with his parents to propose marriage.

The girl, who works at a pathology laboratory at Chembur, refused saying that she did not want to get married right now.

“Within these 15 days, the Palkar proposed three times but she refused each time citing the same reason,” said Rathod.

“Irked by the girl’s refusal and obsessed by her, Palkar decided to ask the girl for the last time and if she turned him down again, he would kill her and himself,” added Rathod.

On Friday evening Palkar, on his way to the girl’s home spotted her walking towards Diamond garden area.

He intercepted her and proposed her again. “She refused again but Palkar could not take her ‘no’ this time,” said Rathod.

Palkar fished out a knife from his pocket and attacked her on the face, “The girl suffered injuries on her nose and ears. After the girl fell down, Palkar stabbed himself in his abdomen,” added Rathod.

Eyewitnesses called the police and rushed the duo to Shatabdi hospital in Govandi.

Palkar was then transferred to Rajawadi Hospital.

The duo did not suffer severe injuries and their condition is stable. “We have booked Palkar for attempt to murder and suicide. We would arrest him as soon as he is discharged,” said Rathod.
