KC College

While assignments and lectures are currently at their peak in city colleges, this is also the season of cultural fests. The beginning of the term witnessed a string of college events, starting from Polaris (Wilson College), XYZ (Andrews), Adorea (Wilson) and Kaleidoscope (Sophia College).

The latest one to be announced is Kiran, KC College's annual festival. The two-day intercollegiate event will be held on September 24 and 25 and students from more than 45 colleges will compete in a bid to win competitions from across fields such as music, dance, cinema and sports.

This year’s theme is The Dynamic Duos, which is inspired by iconic partnerships from pop-culture. Through its various events and contests, the participating students will pay tribute to evergreen pairs such as Sholay’s Jai-Veeru, Tom-Jerry and Batman-Robin.

“We have all grown up watching these characters, be it in films or in comics, so we decided to focus on them in our fest. Our endeavour is to go bigger and better each year,” says Natalie Bansal, events head, Kiran 2013. This year, the highlight of the festival will be a cyclothon — scheduled for the coming weekend — and a fund-raising garage sale. The proceeds from the latter will go to those affected by the Uttarakhand floods. Another event, a band competition titled Blaze, will have amateur musicians battling it out on stage. Besides, this season, Kiran will also go national with its film festival, Shorts. The competition is open to all filmmakers, directors, cinematographers and editors from across the country that are under the age of 23.

“This is the first time that a city college is organising a film festival on such as large scale. Since it's a nationwide event, we are looking forward to receiving a lot of entries,” says Jeet Lotiya, event organiser, Shorts.
