The police on Sunday, arrested Sagar Dhodke (22) and his friend Sonu Jadhav (23) on charges of allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl on Saturday.

“We have arrested the duo, who are the victim’s neighbours, on charges of kidnapping, rape and criminal intimidation,” said RM Vhatkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone VII.

“The girl has been sent for medical examination,” he added.

According to the police, the girl, who lives in a slum in Ghatkopar (East) and Dhodke know each other for the past several years and were reportedly in a relationship.

“On Saturday night, they were sitting together in a hutment in the area, when Jadhav dropped in,” said Senior Police Inspector M. S. Suryavanshi.

“Jadhav blackmailed the girl saying that he would inform her parents about the relationship if she refused to “co-operate”. Thereafter, both Dhodke and Jadhav allegedly forced themselves on her,” Suryavanshi added.

While the girl is employed as a housemaid, the two accused are sweepers.

Following the incident on Saturday night, the girl immediately went to her house and informed her parents.

A complaint was registered early Sunday morning after the parents approached the Pant Nagar police station.

Both the accused were arrested in a couple of hours.
