Two men were arrested by the Borivli police for robbing victims after sedating them with spiked drinks.
Police said the duo would contact sellers listed in the classified advertisements, posing as potential buyers, and request to meet them to discuss the purchase. They would then sedate the victim and rob them of all their valuables. Police identified the duo as Eric William Mushy alias Rahul Lalani, 32, a Nalasopara resident and Paul Rodrigues, 33, a Borivli resident.
Sunil Jain, 41, one of the victims, was called by Mushy, who expressed interest in his products. Jain, a Dhobi Talao resident, runs a computer sales business. Mushy asked Jain to meet him at Borivli to discuss the deal. When Jain reached the place,Mushy, who was with Rodrigues, offered Jain a spiked drink. "Jain started feeling woozy. The duo pushed him into an auto rickshaw and made away with valuables cumulatively worth Rs83,000," said Bhagwan Chate, senior police inspector, Borivli police station. The duo then fled. When Jain regained consciousness, he found himself lying on the road and approached the police.
"We made and distributed sketches based on the complainant's description. We then received a tip-off about their location. We arrested Mushy on Sunday and Rodrigues on Tuesday," Chate added.
Police then found the duo had last December robbed Selvin Alfonso in a similar fashion. But no case was reported, the duo told the police. Police are now ascertaining if Rodrigues and Mushy have committed similar robberies in other areas.
