The police have registered a case of kidnapping and assault against four persons, including a woman, who abducted an autorickshaw driver from his house at a Malad (East) to settle scores.

The incident took place around 1pm on Monday at Jai Amba slums in Kandivli (East). About eight days ago, Kishore Kharpi, 28, had an argument with a woman while he was smoking a cigarette outside a paan shop.

The woman objected to his smoking and after a minor argument, Kharpi forgot about the incident until Monday when the woman’s son Kailash Thakur, 25, a resident of the same area, accompanied by his friend Dolly, 20, and two minors, barged into Kishore’s house.

The four persons thrashed Kishore’s brother, Kishan, and his sister. They also kicked and punched Kishore before dragging him out of the house. The accused then locked Kishore’s door from outside so that Kishan and his sister couldn’t stop them from kidnapping Kishore.

“The men then forced Kishore into an autorickshaw and took him to a secluded place in Kandivli (East) where they assaulted him again. They told him that they were teaching him a lesson for getting into an argument with Thakur’s mother. After this, the accused left and Kishore returned home around two hours later,” said Mohan Sankhe, senior inspector of Kurar police station.

Acting on Kharpi’s complaint, the police arrested Thakur and a minor on Tuesday while the other two are still at large.
