A bus belonging to the Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) going from Kolhapur to Belgaum on Saturday was blocked near Nipani allegedly by activists of the ' Kannad Vedike' and after asking passengers to come out, the activists threw stones at the bus tried to set it ablaze.

The attempt is interpreted as a reaction against the rally of Marathi activists at Yellur in Karnataka demanding the Marathi-speaking border areas to be merged with Maharashtra.
