Officers from the Kurla police station arrested two persons carrying illegal firearms — a country-made revolver and a US-made pistol — and two live rounds in Kurla (West) on Friday morning.

It was the third instance in the last three days of people being arrested for carrying illegal firearms in the city.

While two persons were nabbed from Nehru Nagar on Wednesday with four pistols and 23 live cartridges, two more arrests were made in Borivli on Thursday.

The Borivli duo was carrying 21 new country-made pistols and 15 live cartridges.

The duo arrested on Friday were identified as Tirak Sawant, 38, and Fahim Wadwai, 30, said police, who are trying to establish their links with the two persons arrested in Nehru Nagar.

“The accused claim that they were given the weapons by the duo arrested on Wednesday and were told to sell the firearms. We are verifying their claims,” said VV Bagwe, senior police inspector from the Kurla police station.

Bagwe added that Sawant, a resident of Trombay, was arrested from CST Road in Kurla and he has a case of cheating registered against him.

Whereas, Karjat-based Wadwai, who was picked up from the Pipe Road area of Kurla, has no criminal record.

The duo was presented before the local court, which has remanded them to police custody till September 22.

The police have been on high alert for nabbing two suspected terrorists of foreign origin – Kalimuddin Khan, 28, alias Rameshwar Pandit and Hafiz Sarif, 25 – who have sneaked into the city to disrupt the festival season.
