Two killed after 3 cars crash

Two people were killed while three others were injured in an accident on Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

The two deceased have been identified as additional collector of revenue department (Thane) Sanjay Radkar and his driver Rajendra Kadam.

The incident involving three vehicles occurred around 3pm near the Vashi end of Palm Beach Road. According to police, Kushal Awasthi, an MBBS student of DY Patil College in Nerul, and his friend Sonia M where headed towards Vashi in a Ford Endeavour. However, Awasthi lost control of the vehicle and it went hurtling to the other side of the road.

Radkar’s Hyundai Accent car and a Santro Zing that were coming from the opposite direction collided with Awasthi’s vehicle. Prakash More, senior inspector, Turbhe police station: “Both Radkar and his driver succumbed to their injuries. Radkar’s wife, Shubhangi, is in a serious condition and has been admitted to Shrusha Hospital in Nerul.”

Both Awasthi and Sonia suffered injuries and have been admitted to DY Patil Hospital.

“We have registered a case of rash driving against Awasthi and are investigating the matter to find out the exact cause of the accident,” said More.

In December 2009, two school buses were involved in a head-on collision on Palm Beach Road. Several students and teachers were injured in the incident.
