Two youngsters died on the spot while riding on the bike after the 21-year-old rider lost balance at the Jogeshwari stretch of the Western Express highway on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Rahul Shetty (19) and Vinay Kumar Padi (21) reside in the MIDC area of Andheri (East).

The duo were rushed to Cooper Hospital where they were declared dead before arrival.

Police Sub-Inspector K. Kamble of the Jogeshwari police station said: “We are still not sure about how the rider lost balance as both the youngsters are dead. We have no eye witnesses as yet.”

Vinay was riding the bike in the first lane meant for cars, said the police.

Rahul had just completed a catering course. Vinay used to assist his father in business.

The deceased were good friend and neighbours in the Takshila building at MIDC.

Kamble added after losing balance of the Pulsar bike (MH02 BU 2529), the duo hit their head against he divider thereby sustaining fatal head injuries.

The police is trying to find out the exact sequence of events that led to the accident.
