The Bhandup police arrested two youngsters after they molested an 18-year-old girl staying in their neighbourhood on Friday night, while she was sitting outside her house. When the girl’s father went to confront one of the accused, an unknown miscreant hit him with an earthern flowerpot, police said.

Around 10.20pm on Friday, the victim was sitting outside her house in Ramabai Nagar 2 slums, located atop hills in Bhandup (West), when Aakash Takke, 18 and Swapnil Apraj, 24, were passing by, said the police. “Takke and Apraj spotted the girl sitting alone, soon after which they went and molested her. She raised an alarm, following which the duo fled from the spot,” said Sriranga Nadgouda, senior inspector of Bhandup police.

Hearing her shouts for help, the girl’s father rushed outside and enquired about the incident. After the victim narrated the incident, her father went to the house of one of the accused. When he shot a query loudly about the incident, he was attacked. “Someone threw an earthen flowerpot at him and he sustained an injury to his head,” Nadgouda added.

The father then approached the police who arrested the duo. They are school dropouts and were a nuisance in the neighbourhood, police said. A case has been registered under sections 354 (use of assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts with common intention) and further probe is underway.
