There has been a twist in the case of a pregnant 19-year-old girl, who had lodged an abduction and rape complaint against four unknown people with the police.
A 23-year-old man approached the police station with his advocate claiming to be the father of the baby.
Now, the police will do a DNA test to ascertain the claim. The girl has delivered a healthy boy, whom they are planning to give up for adoption.
"We are in the process of getting permissions for a DNA test of the child, but we can't disclose any details right now because the investigation is underway and it is a very sensitive matter regarding the life of a young girl," said inspector Chandrakant Deshmukh.
The class 11 student had lodged the complaint with the Mumbai police, when she was admitted for her delivery at KEM hospital.
The girl said that nine months ago, when she was returning from her college, three men abducted her in a black car and took her to Ambernath and raped her. They sedated her, raped her and then abandoned her at Kansai in Ambernath.
Police said the girl is denying the man's claim. They said they had suspected her story as she kept changing her statements. So, the police are now proceeding with the DNA test.
The girl and her family members have completed all formalities and will hand over the baby to the adoption agency and within the next two to three days.
The baby has to be handed over in the presence of police officials as per procedure, but now it will be done after the DNA test.
