A Unani doctor was arrested on Wednesday for selling a miracle drug. The Versova police swung into action after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lodged a complaint against Nisar Panjwani for cheating his patients and providing them with a medicine containing harmful ingredients.

Panjwani started his practice from his flat last year. He would sell a medicine called 3-Generation, which he claimed would give assured results for enhancing stamina and fighting several ailments. The FDA informed the police that his medicine was not only ineffective but also contained harmful ingredients that could cause side-effects to the consumers. Panjwani was charging Rs8000 for each bottle of the said medicine.

Acting on the information, the police arrested him on Wednesday. In his statement, Panjwani told the police that he used to purchase the ingredients for his medicine from Bhiwandi and claimed that he had started his practice only after getting permission from the concerned authorities.

The FDA had raided his flat in Neelam Apartments a few days ago and seized the ingredients and sent them for examination. The results revealed that the medicine was harmful.

“The FDA then approached the Versova police and lodged a complaint. We received a tip-off regarding his location following which he was arrested,” said KMM Prasanna, deputy commissioner of police (zone 9).
