A body of an unidentified physically disabled man was found in the luggage compartment as the local train pulled into Andheri station on Friday morning.

The Andheri Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case of accidental death.

They suspect he was a ragpicker who was ailing and had died of a natural cause.

According to the GRP officials, at 8.40 am, when the Churchgate-bound train pulled into platform no. 3 at Andheri station, the commuters who got into the luggage compartment saw the man, around 35 years old, lying on the bench.

Assuming that he was asleep, they tried to wake him up. But when he did not respond, they realised that he was dead.
One of the commuters informed the control room.

The stationmaster and Andheri GRP officials rushed to the train after an announcement was made.

“We could not find any papers on him that could reveal his identity. He appears to be a ragpicker. There were no injuries marks on his body. It appears that he was unwell and could be suffering from tuberculosis,” said Senior Police Inspector T. Shinde.

The body has been sent to R.N. Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem.

The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
