Two instances of house break-in thefts were reported in the western suburbs on Saturday where valuables totalling Rs22.97 lakh were stolen. No arrests have been made so far.
In the first instance, a house in Malad (West) was burgled. The accused stole gold ornaments weighing 675grams, 75-gram silver coins, and artificial jewellery collectively worth Rs 22,57,000.
According to the police, the incident occured after Simran Katariya,41, left her residence in Evershine Nagar around 12.30pm on Saturday. “When she returned home around 5.15pm, her cupboards were open and valuables were missing,” said an official from the Bangur Nagar police.
Police said the unidentified accused allegedly broke into the house through the bathroom window. Police are questioning other residents and the watchman to know if they had seen any suspicious-looking person enter the premises. There are no leads on the accused yet, police admitted.
The second instance was reported in Jogeshwari (West) where silver coins worth Rs40,000 were stolen from a senior citizen’s workplace. According to Amboli police, Arunkumar Ambrol,62, left his workplace at Janki Centre, off Veera Desai Road, around 6pm on Saturday. The accused allegedly broke the latch of the shop’s door and stole the coins from the safe. The police have registered a case of theft against an unidentified person and are probing further.
