Two house break-ins were reported in the western suburbs in which cash and valuables worth over Rs 7 lakh were stolen on Monday.

In the first incident, unidentified people allegedly broke into the residence of Naresh Shah, a businessman, who resides in the Gujarat Society Road at Vile Parle (East). The incident took place between 8am and 6pm when Shah along with his family were not at home.

The police said when Shah returned home, he found that the latch on the main door of his house was broken. Suspecting foul play, Shah went inside to inspect the house and found that the place had been ransacked, the police added.

He then checked the cupboard, which allegedly had been broken as well. Jewellery and cash collectively worth Rs2.39 lakh was stolen, the police said. Shah lodged a case with the Vile Parle police.

In the second incident, Rajesh Pachouri, who works for a private firm, found cash and valuables collectively worth Rs4.65 lakh missing from his residence located near Milan subway at Santacruz (West).

The crime allegedly took place between 8.30am and 7pm when Pachouri and his family had gone out. The police said an unidentified person broke into Pachouri’s residence by breaking open the latch and lock on the main door.

“We have registered a case against an unidentified person and are trying to identify him,” said Madhukar Chaudhari, senior police inspector.
