The long-pending anti superstition bill is expected to get stalled further even as the law and judiciary department cleared it on Thursday for tabling in the forthcoming monsoon session of the state legislature beginning next Monday.

One of the biggest processions of Varkaris (pilgrims) ‘Gyaneshwar Palkhi’ who walk up to the Pandharpur pilgrimage from Alandi near Pune every monsoon, have threatened to stage a massive agitation on July 13 before entering Solapur city.

More than two lakh pilgrims will congregate.

Apart from negotiations with the government over the antisuperstition bill, the varkari federation has demanded the banning of animal slaughter near Hindu religious places.
