The last rites of three members of the Ghavankar family, who were killed in a car crash on Thursday, were performed on Friday at Mulund. The family was travelling in a Ford Fiest on the Eastern Express Highway when their car hit a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clean-up truck at Vikhroli.

Sanjivani Ghavankar, 54, a national level kabbadi player, was killed in the mishap along with her husband Harish Ghavankar, 60, an architect, and his sister Shubhangi Ghavankar, 61. Relatives of the Ghavankars were waiting for Harish and Sanjivani’s son to return from London to perform the last rites.

The driver of the truck, Barkatullah Hamidullah Khan, 40, was arrested and produced before the court on Friday. He was later released on bail.
