Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to the kin of each of the five children killed in Jubilee Mill wall collapse, which took place on Saturday.
The 40-feet wall collapsed because of heavy rains and strong winds. The deceased were Sayeed Ali Shaha, 11, Noor Mohammed Shaha, 18, Ghulam Moinuddin Majiula Khan, 12, Adnan Hasan, 12, and Shaufiq Sheikh, 17.
Chavan, along with Union minister Milind Deora and state minorities minister Naseem Khan visited the site.
The CM has asked the Mumbai city collector Chandrashekhar Oak to inquire into the incident. "We have asked the district collector to give a report on the collapse after which action will be taken and the culprits will be brought to book," Chavan said.
The CM has also decided to conduct a high-level meeting, which will include local corporators, MLAs, MPs and stakeholders, on the issue of wall collapses in old and dilapidated buildings in the city.
"The meeting will take place within a week," Khan said.
