The state government has agreed to take action against officials of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) if they are found to have collided with agents who allegedly cheated war widows of cheaper houses.

The matter refers to some war widows residing in the interior part of the state who were made to fill forms last year by some agents under the defence quota.

Some of the widows won houses in Mumbai. The agents brought them to the city, signed documents and sold off the houses. “We will hold an inquiry and take action within two months,” said state minister for housing Sachin Ahir.

“Those responsible should be punished,” said Congress member Bhai Jagtap.
