The Cuffe Parade police are investigating if a mysterious blackout that took place at midnight on Thursday has any connection with the disappearance of two-year-old Angel Fernandes. Angel went missing during the blackout, and was found dead few hours later.
Relatives of the girl, who did not wish to be named fearing police harassment, said that the sequence of events were suspicious. "There was a blackout, following which, we called Sikandar [name changed] to restore the electric supply. He came with his friend, restored the power supply and left. Around half-an-hour after that, Angel went missing," said a family member. The family added that the house was made of wood and the main door's lock was not strong.
Iqbal Shaikh, assistant commissioner of police (Colaba) said, "We are probing the reasons for the power cut and if it has anything to do with the kidnapping." The investigators also conducted a DNA test of the two suspects.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Sharma, Angel's father returned from UP on Friday night and is being interrogated. An officer of Cuffe Parade police station said, "We are questioning him in connection with his visit to his native place."
