Welfare fund to benefit firemen
The state government has decided to start a welfare fund to give extra benefits to the firemen. “The state government is preparing such a fund and will soon announce the details of it,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner, Aseem Gupta.

Six firemen were killed when a major fire broke out in a building in Thane in October last year.
“Post the incident there is a need to insure the lives of the firemen and compensation to the families can be given from the fund,” said an official, requesting anonymity.
This fund will be for all the civic bodies across the state and they will have to pool in money to keep the fund active.
“We will surely give our contribution to the fund,” said Municipal Commissioner, Swadheen Kshatriya.
According to the fire department, there are 1200 firemen in the Mumbai fire brigade.The death rate of firemen on duty has increased by 20 per cent in the last five years.
