The Dadar police investigating the suicide of Lalit Sheth, founder of leading travel operator, Shree Raj Tours and Travels Ltd, are now trying to find the person the 56-year-old spoke to moments before he leapt to his death from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Wednesday.

The police said Sheth's phone records indicate that he spoke to someone from his mobile phone just before jumping to his death - something that helped the police find the spot from where he jumped. The mysterious call is being considered important as Sheth didn't speak to any of the family members the police have questioned till now.

Sheth had left a suicide note in his Volkswagen Vento car, saying he had decided to end his life as "I have failed to keep my commitments".

DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said the Worli police was informed about Sheth having gone missing from near the Worli dairy around 1pm, when he told the driver to stop his Volkswagen Vento car. On using the mobile tracker, the police found that Sheth's last location was the Worli end of the sea link.

A few hours later Sheth's body was washed ashore below the same spot where the mobile tracker traced him, said Kulkarni.

"A mobile phone's location will not be traced till the time there is an incoming or outgoing call. Since the body was found near the same spot where his mobile phone was traced, it means Sheth spoke to someone on the phone moments before he committed suicide," said Kulkarni.
