The police arrested the 30-year-old woman who had fled to Chandrapur in Nashik, after allegedly killing the man she had been living with, on Saturday.
Sunita Waghmare, the accused, was living with her husband in Pune when she met Devanand Godmore (32) and eloped with him to Mumbai. Godmore used to work as a site supervsisor.
On July 26, the police found Godmore’s body in a decomposed state at his home in Agarwal Nagari in Nalasopara (East). Godmore had several stab wounds on his abdomen and severe head injuries.
During investigations, the police found that Godmore was living with a woman and the duo used to have constant quarrels. The police tracked Waghmare at Chandrapur and arrested her. Waghmare told the police that she had been staying with Godmore for a few years. “He would often threaten to sell her off if she did not heed to his demands. As she had no relatives in the city, she used to get scared,” said a police official from Nalaosopara police station.
When Waghmare could not take Godmore’s threats any more, she reportedly planned to kill him. On July 26, she persuaded him to play cards with her. “During one such game, she blindfolded Godmore and attacked him with an iron rod that she had stolen from a construction site,” said the police official.
She stabbed him about 10 times with a kitchen knife and then fled to Chandrapur. “She has been remanded to police custody,” said Police Inspector P. Mane.
