Senior inspector of Vakola police station Rajendra Pardesi said that according to an eyewitness account, the incident took place at around 1.30am on Monday when Saxena was seen jumping off from the flyover on the Western Express Highway. "She did not come in the way of any vehicle moving below the flyover, but sustained fatal injuries due to the fall," said Pardesi.

A person who was walking nearby saw her and rushed to her help. According to the police, Saxena was conscious and even had few sips of water given to her by the crowd that had gathered. "However, she soon fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital but died before she could be admitted," said Pardesi.

The Vakola police contacted her family members with the help of the mobile phone that was kept on the boundary wall of the flyover. Saxena resided with her parents and sister at Swiss Palace building at Shastri Nagar in Lokhandwala.

The family hails from Agra and had shifted base to the city around three years ago, Pardesi said. The police found no suicide note at her house or at the site. Her family told the police that Saxena, who was unemployed, had left their residence at around 10pm on Sunday.

The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. "At this stage, no foul play is suspected. We have not been able to talk to the family members as they are in shock," Pardesi said.
